AVOIDANCE

What is the “psychology of avoidance”?

Curiosity drove me to gain an understanding of why people stay away from particular situations, activities, environments, people, things or subjects of thought.

After reading journal articles from educational institutions and from behavioral specialists, the findings thus far are:

a) anticipation of negative consequences;  b) anticipation of painful feelings; c) fear; d) denial; e) anxiety stemming from not knowing what to do / where to begin?

Hmm, now it was time to investigate the causes of decision paralysis.  1) too many choices; 2) uncomfortable with the topic;  3) not knowing where to begin.

Appears there is some overlap here.  “Not knowing where to begin or what to do” has crossover.  Does avoidance serve or hinder us?  Does the thing we avoid go away?  Come back to haunt us?  What can we do to make peace with whatever we are avoiding?

Our work at the Living Planner concentrates on providing resources to take the guesswork out of what you may be avoiding.  We provide practical real life planning scenarios and guide you in ways that empower you to make choices, make decisions and take definitive action steps to follow-up with professionals.
