Spring Tech Cleaning
Always remember all your tech gadgets when cleaning!
- Clean your computer. Start by unplugging your computer and removing any peripherals. Then, use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust from the vents. You can also use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the case and screen.
- Clean your phone. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the screen and back of your phone. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the charging port and headphone jack.
- Clean your tablet. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the screen and back of your tablet. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the charging port and headphone jack.
- Clean your laptop keyboard. Use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust from between the keys. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the keys individually.
- Clean your mouse. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the surface of your mouse. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the scroll wheel and buttons.
- Clean your printer. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of your printer. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the scanner glass and ink cartridges.
- Clean your router. Use a damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of your router. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the ports and buttons.
And, while you’re thinking about all things technology, pay attention to the emails and texts you receive. This week alone, I’ve received three text messages from what looked like Amazon and UPS asking me to click on links to “help the driver locate me”.
Rather than click on the link, I deleted these messages and reported them as spam. Stay alert everyone – the hackers are “springing into action” too!

How About You?
Spring is a great time for you to jump into action too! As you’re cleaning and decluttering your physical spaces and technology, take a look at your files.
- Are they up to date?
- Could you organize them differently to make it easier for you (and others if needed) to find important documents?
- Have you tossed out / shredded paper no longer needed?
- If you needed to leave quickly (think natural disaster) could you easily assemble important documents to “grab and go”?
Being outside is easier now, as we have more daylight and warmer temperatures. Enjoy some time outside in nature to move your body and clear your mind. As the pace picks up, make sure to monitor your energy levels too.
