This week I was reminded about something I’ve done in the past. I created “80th birthday quizzes” 20 years ago to keep record about life’s important thoughts about people I loved. It got me thinking that it may be time to pull out the questions and bring them forward for others to use as they gather together with family and friends for Thanksgiving!
Capturing the stories about someone, their lives and what has mattered for them, helps us hold onto memories for years to come. Think about it from a personal perspective, do people really know you? Your dreams? What has really mattered to you? How open are you to sharing life’s meaningful moments with others?
If you’d like a little help with creating questions to ask yourself and/or others, here are a few to get you going …
- What is your most significant childhood memory?
- Who has been the most influential person in your life?
- What invention created in your lifetime has had the greatest impact on you?
- If you had one thing to “do over”, what would it be and why?
- What city would you like most to visit?
- What is a memory that always makes you laugh?
- If you were to name one adjective to describe yourself, what would it be?
- Tell us about your “1st’s”: 1st memory; 1st day of school; 1st pet; 1st best friend; 1st job; 1st kiss; 1st time you lived on your own; et al…
Making time for those you care about matters. Details about others and about your life matters.
Advanced planning for individuals and families also matters. So often avoidance of discussing the what-if’s adds to emotional duress during times we need to focus on loved ones. If you’re looking for a road-map of pre-planning tips in layperson language, the 2019 edition of my book, The Living Planner – What to Prepare Now While You are Living may be of help: https://thelivingplanner.com/offerings
