Employee Focus

In 2024 employees are looking for employers who focus on them and care about them. My motto is, “Care for People, Care for Business”! Let’s do it!

Employees are the internal customer. How they are treated is how external customers are treated too!

Caring Companies

Let’s think about areas of importance for 2024 and beyond. Signs of a caring company include:

  • Trust. Trust is a two-way street. Are employees trusted? Do customers trust the company? As the use of AI continues to make its way into many companies, employees want to feel valued and customers want to know if who they’re talking to is real or a programmed bot! How companies navigate this is critically important.
  • Fairness. Do employees and customers feel as if they are being treated fairly? Caring companies monitor employees and their customer base often to seek feedback and perspective from their important people.
  • People development. Investing in training for your employees to continue their development and upgrade their skills displays caring about them and can increase retention.
  • Share business goals. When employees and customers know the business goals and have a way to provide input, it is easier to uncover the “blind spots”. A great strategy without a tactical plan rarely works out well for anyone.

Desired Benefits

Employee benefits are evolving as our workplaces change. Some highly valued benefits include:

  • Affordable Healthcare
  • Wellbeing benefits including a combination of physical, mental, and financial programs
  • Professional Development
  • Individualized benefits vs. one size fits all
  • Family focused benefits / family planning resources for all stages of life
  • Retirement Planning (including education)
  • Flex policies
  • Skills training (technology, soft skills, et al.)
  • Educational opportunities

Communication

Communicating with employees personally vs. relying on technological tools is an important aspect to incorporate into your employee focus. Making time to connect 1:1 on a regular basis beyond the “performance review” is highly desired.

Companies often contemplate this and may stop when they are unclear about the best way to proceed. It’s challenging to tailor your approach for individual employees within time constraints. Open dialogue between people in leadership with employees enhances trust, builds relationships and forms bonds that benefit all!
