As promised last week, this week we’ll dive into the storage of your important documents. This week I explored a product I’ve heard lots about of late and I go into detail about it below.
Over the years, I’ve stored my important documents in a large binder and stored them in a fireproof safe. When loading everything in my car, I learned how heavy the safe was during a fire nearby!
Curious about the new product, I bought it and began transferring my information from my old system to the new one while fire trucks were blasting down the street from me 😟
We’ll start with what are important documents, then look into where and how to store them.

What Documents Are Important?
Before you say, all documents, here’s a list to get you started. Check around now, if any are missing, you’ll have time to replace or duplicate them.
- Birth Certificates
- Passport, Immigration Records
- Social Security Cards
- Copy of Driver’s License
- Vehicle Titles (including RV’s, ATV’s/Motorcycles)
- Property Deeds, Ownership Documents, Rental Agreements
- Original Will, Trust, Estate Planning Documents
- Marriage Certificate
- Divorce Decree Papers
- Adoption Records
- Military Service Records
- Appraisal Documents
- Business Ownership Documents
- Contracts
- Employment Documents
- Financial Documents
- Health Documents
- Insurance Documents
- Intellectual Property Documents (Patent, Copyright, Service/Trademarks)
- Loan Documents
- Retirement/Pension Documents
- Stock Certificates
- Username, Password, MFA, Security Questions
- Other difficult to replace documents

Storage Options
Flexibility is key when considering storage options. What is a system you’ll use? What is a system that’s safe and secure? Do you prefer an online, or a paper system to store your important documents?
Having access to full account numbers, account customer service phone numbers and account addresses is important. If your accounts are online, you most likely will not receive statements via “snail mail”. If this is what you prefer, please document information for your helpers, otherwise they may not be able to help you when the time comes.
It is important to maintain a copy of all accounts with full information. In the past, I used a large binder to keep a paper copy of all important document and account information. The new product I began implementing this week is called a NokBox and I’m happy to share my affiliate link with you in case you want to check it out.
I purchased the fireproof kit and am enjoying it. It’s much lighter than my fireproof safe, the instructions are helpful, and the storage area is easy to use. The NokBox is a complete system that helps you organize all of your accounts, possessions, social media presence, communities, kids, pets, personal history, and estate plans (even if you don’t have estate plans yet!).
