Making Sense of Life

Does making sense of life come easily to you? It’s been 20 years since 9/11, the day that changed so much for many.

For the victims, their families, friends, co-workers, responders, communities our country and the world I want to acknowledge the loss felt deeply by so many. Making sense of this and of life can be difficult.

Finding ways to press on is personal. Separating “sense” from “nonsense” for me involves diligence, resilience, having a purpose, a sense of humor and finding something from the experience that can guide me moving forward. Let’s explore how you can make sense out of nonsense!

Finding Purpose From Tragedy

After watching individuals share stories from then and now on the documentary “Memory Box” this week, I saw courage, pain, heartache and purpose from these people. Finding purpose from tragedy prompted me to wonder how many of us can, have and will do this in a lifetime.

It seemed a common theme this week, as I attended a networking event where the question asked as we went into breakout rooms was for us to fill in the blank to this statement. “Hard times require … ” Listening and contributing in this breakout room again revealed examples from everyday people who have faced tragedy, come through it using various methods and have found or are finding purpose.

Living On Purpose With Purpose

What does living on purpose with purpose mean to and for you? Here are a few things that may help you get started!

  • Identify and get clear about what you consider important in life. Align your values and beliefs and map out what that means to you.
  • Listen to what’s deep inside of you. When we get caught up in day to day life, we often overlook what truly matters.
  • It’s ok to do things “your way”. Following the crowd is easy. Following yourself can be a challenge, unless you give yourself permission.
  • Be ok with the unknown. The “woogies” are unfamiliarity with something. Learn through experiences and grow!
  • What is your “to be” list? Heck with the “to do’s”, how do you want to be in this precious gift of life you’re living?
  • When you wake up, ask yourself how you would like the day to end? What makes a “good day” for you?
  • You choose what you get in life. Do what’s needed today to enjoy the tomorrows to come 🙂
