Self Mastery, a concept we’ve heard about. What is it really? Mastery of Self or Self Mastery is defined beautifully by the Collins English Dictionary. “the ability to take control of one’s life without being blown off course by feelings, urges, circumstances etc Self-mastery is that condition whereby your body is your servant and not your master.”
Today, we’re going to go down a different road in life. Rather than focus on practical stuff needed in life and business, it’s time to talk about us. How do we rebound after setbacks? How do we navigate in real life situations? How do we learn to take control of our lives without being blown off course?
We’ll address this because life and business are not always a straight line of “X, Y and Z”. The zig zags we experience represent the components of “real life” that come at us when we least expect them. How we react, respond and prepare for these zig zags could be defined as the difference between “book smarts and street smarts”.
Think about that saying “experience is the teacher”. When we experience the zig zags, what experience do we gain? How can we allow this experience to guide us through life and business?
This list reminds us about key elements to guide you while navigating through life and business.
- We can only control what we can control
- Discipline prepares us for Mastery of Self
- Consider exchanging what you want to do now for what you want to achieve later
- Emotion & Attitude matters
- Focus is important
- Perspective is everything
- Endurance is a willingness to keep trying
- Preparation is practice for unexpected twists
