Have you considered a “life review” recently? How often do you change the oil in your car? How about your tires? What about having a medical check-up? Do you schedule check-ups on a regular basis?
It’s become clear that while we may schedule reviews of our physical selves or things we own, we may not consider the components of our daily lives in a similar way. Today, let’s change that! Or at least consider how our lives are changing, thus it is a critical component to take stock in some important tools to “take a peek under the hood” of our lives 🙂
The areas I suggest for you to review regularly are:
- Named Beneficiaries – when was the last time you checked on the accounts where you have named a beneficiary? This is an important area of life that has quite an impact if changes occur since you originally named a beneficiary. Accounts that fall into this category tend to be financially driven. Accounts include bank accounts, retirement plans through an employer (military or civilian), investment and retirement accounts, insurance policies and real estate.
- Legal documents – decisions you made years ago may not apply to life today. When was the last time you reviewed anything legal from or for you? Conducting a regular review of legal documents that include your will, trust, Powers of Attorney, Guardianship for children, Health Care Directives, loan agreements, contracts and/or agreements will ensure your current day wishes remain the same or prompt you to take action.
- Online accounts – our lives involve various ways we access and process information today. When was the last time you reviewed how you actually access information online? Do you have a record of the URL’s / Apps you access, inclusive of the user name(s), passwords and security questions for each of these accounts?
Overwhelm comes easily when we actually consider the various “administrative” elements our daily lives entail. Setting aside time to take small consistent steps to assure yourself you are “covered” provides such relief! Time and time again we are reminded of our mortality. It’s is a relief to plan your work and work your plan!
