I learned an important lesson this week about policy deductibles! Driving on the freeway, I jumped in my seat. A loud “Clack” hit my windshield while driving 65 mph.
As my heart rate returned to normal, I saw the point of impact up near the rear view mirror. A line was growing down the windshield as I continued my drive.
For the 1st time in my driving life, it was time to replace the windshield on my car!
Upon reaching my destination, I took out my car insurance information and called to inquire about processing a claim. From previous experience, I knew my insurance covered windshield repair 100% without the need to meet my policy deductible.
Soon, I would learn that when it comes to replacement (the crack on my window was over 6″ long), I would be on my own, as unless I had met my deductible, the policy didn’t cover replacement! My immediate thought was “interesting, I hadn’t paid attention to this possibility, it was on me!”
This “ah ha” brings me to the topic today, have you reviewed your policies – all of them to understand when the deductible applies, when it doesn’t and what preventative services are provided without the need to fuss with a deductible?
When I get home, I’ll be pulling out all my policies (home, car, health, life, etc) to review the gaps I have, those I am ok with and those I’d like to fill.
Sometimes the administrative side of life seems daunting. How do I think about everything? The experiences we encounter along the way are like pebbles on a path … they lead us to new learning. With the loud “Crack” I’ve now learned something new about my car insurance deductible I hadn’t known before!
These “little things” can add up along this thing we call life! The collection of pebbles on the path are what I love to extrapolate into ways we can streamline life and make sure our bases are covered!
