Wellbeing is a broad topic. Consider this definition, “The state of being comfortable, healthy or happy.” Ah, let that sink in – feels pretty good, doesn’t it?
Today, let’s think about our day to day life. When our pattern, routine and activities are interrupted by unplanned events at home and/or work, there is impact. Each of us responds differently to sudden situations. We can reach out, we can close off, we can act, we may not know what to do. When emotions are front and center how do you respond?
During my career, I’ve faced personal and professional “interruptions”. I’ve learned through experience how valuable it is to create the “If, then” scenarios and fortify my tool box as a “go to” if needed and enhancing my “state of comfort”!
My aim with The Living Planner is to bring awareness, education and inspire action for individuals and businesses around contingency planning. Why? Life is unpredictable, life can be messy and unexpected occurrences at home and work can cause angst. Preparation for what can happen to you provides a buffer to the sheer chaos and exhaustion of “reacting”.
What you make happen is up to you! Let’s take one example – finances. Cash in and cash out is of importance at home and work. When we are responsible for generating cash, often times we are also responsible for taking care of the disbursement of cash to others. If there is an interruption and you are unable to take care of bringing cash in or paying cash out, who is prepared to “cover” for you? Who could step in and know what you do and how you do it at home and work? Has your family and/or your company considered the “If, then” scenarios to provide a “go to” plan for those who are needed to step in for you? If you wanted to establish a “go to” plan, do you know where to begin?
Educate yourself about what you do, how you do it and who knows what you do in your day to day life. Circumstances evolve at home and work often – when you keep up with yourself, you have a better idea of what would be valuable to/for you, your families and your colleagues.
Possibilities abound! Play with the “If, then” plans – if you were to take a year-long sabbatical, vs. thinking about illness – it opens you up to the fun side of planning.
The Living Planner proactively helps you assess your situation in business and home and explore ways for you to protect what is important to you by asking questions and exploring with you. When you’re ready to explore how to be ready, we’re here for you.
