The days are getting longer! Yes, spring equinox has arrived. Equinox is derived from Latin, meaning “equal night”. The length of day time and night time is almost equal – 12 hours each! It is a time of new beginnings as we say goodbye to winter and welcome the warmth of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Farmer’s Almanac provides a personalized Sunrise and Sunset calendar. With the equinox, enjoy the increasing sunlight hours, with earlier dawns and later sunsets. See your personalized Sun rise and set calculator.
We’ve been through a lot in the past year – it’s been a blur of changes amidst a pandemic still claiming 1000 lives of our loved ones per day. Spring and new beginnings bring hope this year.
Each state sets qualifications for vaccination sign up. Delivery of doses are increasing and states are constantly updating their information. PBS updated their site this week with how to sign up in your state information you may find helpful: https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2021/02/18/967448680/how-to-sign-up-for-a-covid-19-vaccine-in-your-state
Birds chirping, buds popping and the hue of green remind us it is time to get up and get moving! If you’ve had a break from exercise, be mindful of too much too soon. Start slowly and build up strength and endurance again. Test your body, yet listen to it and stay alert to breathing and pain. Consistency is key to building stamina. Even 10 min/day reaps benefits!
A buddy system helps build accountability and the availability of online/streaming options abound! Push ups, jumping jacks or dumbbells are low cost ways to get started no matter where you are.
Found this quote as I started thinking about spring and hope you enjoy it.
“A flower blooms in the spring, and dies in the fall. A tree wakes up in the spring, and sleeps in the fall. A life starts at the beginning, and dies at the end. In between is what makes it matter.” Amber Hope
