Q4 is here! Where has the year gone? A common refrain as we enter into the last quarter of the year! How ready are you to take care of business?
I’ve returned from a conference with amazing women who are all pursuing their professions with gusto. Time and time again, we ask ourselves if we are doing all possible to deliver to clients while maintaining life at home. Combining work and home life is something we balance, we question, we wonder if we are doing well … today, let’s consider how to position ourselves for a successful end of 2018.
- Work Life – how are you set to finalize the year? On track for completing projects, meeting goals and delivering quality to your client base? Are your financial projections on target? Have you allocated resources to complete the tasks at hand and set-up to finish the year strong while simultaneously building for a strong start to 2019? Do you have product on hand to meet customer demand for Q4? If you are beginning a new fiscal year, have you set-up to win for the coming year? Have you allocated staffing to handle upcoming vacation demands for the holidays? How about your own plans for the holidays – do you have staffing to cover your responsibilities? Take some time now to review what’s needed and what may require additional attention to ensure things are covered and allow yourself some “pad” in case of hiccups.
- Home Life – Q4 is the quarter with holidays that interrupt our normal scheduling! Children, Parents, Siblings, Friends – we tend to have a high level of social engagement this quarter. How are you positioned for family life and work demands during this “high season”? Have travel plans been finalized? Is there a need to make reservations, secure tickets, rooms, cars? What about entertaining, gifts and downtime? Is your budget lined up with projected expenses? Now is a good time to map out life in conjunction with work demands to pace yourself and set a schedule to accommodate life and work!
- Tie-up loose ends – I am a fan of the term “button-up”! This term covers anything from administrative details at home and work to a loose term in conjunction with distractions that are driving you crazy 🙂 So often we have that “little voice” telling us that something requires attention. If we ignore that “little voice”, it tends to get louder rather than just go away! This is a great time of year to consider all those nagging issues that we’ve ignored and give them a little attention / TLC! Plan your work and work your plan! Clear the time and space and see what a difference it makes in your life. Having breathing room is a gift you can give yourself. It is the gift that keeps giving 🙂
