The Living Planner Advisory Perspective Series

Happy Independence Day Weekend!

As a reminder, life is indeed a team sport!  Those you select to be on your team will provide you with critical information to set-up your house in a way that supports you and your family.  Choose wisely!

This series continues with the questions we’ve been asking professionals this year.  These questions were designed  to give you an idea of what to consider when meeting or selecting professionals for your team.  Let’s have a look “behind the curtain” at what the professionals have to say.

The professionals I feature in this series are dedicated to their fields, to their clients and to you being prepared in all ways best for you.

I am delighted to introduce this month’s featured professional with a client and staff member:

Danny Wilson, RN, CSCM  Dan Wilson
Progressive Home Health Services, Inc.
1902 Wright Place, Ste 200
Carlsbad, CA  92008

Danny Wilson is a Registered Nurse who has practiced in the San Diego and Riverside counties for 14 years. His background in Nursing includes; Critical Care, Oncology, and Skilled Nursing Facilities, with a focus on Geriatric’s. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Information Technology with a Minor in Business Administration. He is also completing his 2nd Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Cal State University of San Marcos. He owns and operates Progressive Home Health Services, which provides quality in-home caregivers to seniors that promote health and independence to allow seniors to stay at home throughout their lifespan. Danny enjoys volunteering his time and services to North Coast Church, senior centers, and nursing facilities throughout the north San Diego county area. In his personal time Danny likes surfing with friends, boating and outdoor activity with family and friends.

Here are Danny’s answers to the questions.

1.  What do you enjoy about working with your client?

Seeing the magic between client and caregiver develop. It is understandable that it can be challenging to let someone into your home and intrude your personal space. In addition, the thought of losing your independence can be overwhelming. However, once the client realizes that the caregiver is there to promote health and independence, a bond begins to develop that continues to grow over time. The caregiver becomes like one of the family and both the client and caregiver lives are enriched. That is the personal satisfaction we are blessed to be a part of the service we offer.

2.  How would you suggest a new client prepare for a 1st meeting?

Both client and family members should be present, feeling relaxed knowing that there are no obligations or commitments. A general understanding of what their expectations and goals are as they relate to health and other responsibilities of the caregiver. They can also expect to discuss current and historical heath issues in order to provide the ideal care plan that is tailored to their needs. All questions and concerns will be encouraged as well.

3.  When someone agrees to become a client, what can they expect immediately?

Our experience has been that the client and family immediately recognize the benefits of having a quality caregiver. Providing assistance with Activities of Daily Living, tends to have a significate impact on the overall quality of life and health for the client and provides peace of mind for the family.

4.  What is your service philosophy?

Our mission statement is “Proving Quality In-Home Care while Promoting Health and Independence.” That is the philosophy we encourage with both our clients and caregivers. This approach has proven to benefit everyone involved in the care process.

5.  What service do you provide to assist “laypeople” with understanding what is being discussed?

As a Registered Nurse I have practiced for 14 years in the San Diego area. My experience includes; Skilled Nursing Facility, Oncology, and Critical Care. This background has afforded me the ability to bridge the gap of understanding between medical terminology and client interpretation. This ability allows me to ensure that the client and care team are in compliance with the plan of care.

Bonus: If you were to relay one piece of advice to anyone reading this, what would it be?

If able, take advantage of all resources available and to be proactive in all areas of your life.
