Unplugging

This weekend has been a perfect time for me to unplug.  It has been a time to minimize the use of technology, a time to do things I wanted to do, when I wanted to do them.   A gift I could give myself!  I’ve felt the peace of mind and body, enjoying the beauty of my surroundings, of nature and of no particular schedule.

Being tethered to a device leads us to believe we are “connected”.  Rather than feel disconnected, the feeling of contentedness within me has soared!  Shutting off the “noise” has allowed a feeling of being grounded in the world within me and around me. My creative juices have been activated – powering down activates creation.  It allows gaining perspective about doing vs. being and leads to assessing what is done, and how it contributes.

Connecting with people, eye to eye and/or ear to ear happens when we shut off distractions.  Engaging in meaningful conversations and tapping into perspectives born from real life.  Life is here and now, in front of us every minute we are awake and participating in living.

Commitment to this practice came to me slowly and it is something I must remind myself to “schedule”.  Yes, there is irony in that!  When I do, I am reminded just how life-giving it is.

How might we incorporate this into everyday life?  Starting in small segments is a winner for me.  15 min to start my day.  15 min mid-day to assess how I’m doing and 15 min at the end of the day to reflect on the ways it worked is a way to begin.  Selecting a 1/2 day and working up to a full day within a month will be the next step.  You never know – I may work up to a day a week!

All I know is this feeling of relaxed be-ing-ness is a good feeling.  As I type this blog, I commit to jumping off technology again for the rest of the evening to simply be!

Give yourself the gift of living!  Unplugging is highly recommended!  Reignite yourself.  The stuff will be waiting …
