What is “Normal”?

This pandemic has brought much to light. Suddenly the world stopped. From the hustle bustle pace of day to day life, we were home, limiting our exposure to people, places and things we considered “normal” before learning of a virus that could transmit through droplets. Now, we’re preparing for opening up with guidelines. Do we even know what “normal” is anymore?

Human nature likes consistency and predictability. Life has been upended in so many ways for the past few months. Knowing what we can count on isn’t clear as we enter into the coming months. This uncertainty creates uneasiness, stress and many questions without clear answers.

Think back upon a time when you were nervous about having a conversation with someone, because you weren’t sure how they would react. All those things I thought would not matter to my parents, colleagues, bosses that did and all that I thought would matter that didn’t, what did these reactions teach me? Mostly, that I didn’t know what they were thinking 🙂

So now, science is involved. Oh my! This virus is not a person. It doesn’t have an opinion. If follows a trajectory of science. With that in mind, we are learning that being near people without protective masks, we increase the risk of exposure.

Have alternative ways of living become a “new normal”? As we prepare to re-enter work spaces, schools, restaurants and other gatherings of people we’re entering a new phase of operating under this pandemic.

Will remote working and education continue as physical locations are preparing for people again? Will the workarounds we’ve adopted over the past months continue along side or forever?

Taking stock in all we’ve learned is a good practice to keep at all times. In these times, it is particularly valuable. Important things to consider now are: people that matter; the flow of our days; cash flow in/out; our ways of communicating; productivity tips; health focus; what matters deeply; and things to be, do in the near term.

Whatever your normal is, make it a good one! Some of the previously “normal things” in life may not be desirable moving forward. This is a great time to keep what matters and discard what doesn’t. This pause in “regularly scheduled programming” opens up the possibility of making positive change for you, those near you and beyond.

I ask you to consider an aspect of life and business that is typically “put aside”. My work is extensive for people and businesses to explore the various components of what will you do when/if you experience a personal, work or natural disaster? Are you ready, just in case?

This is a great time to review what protection strategies you have in place and identify what’s missing and how best to fill the gaps. If you or someone you know would benefit from working with me individually, for their employees or companies, contact me via Email or check out the website @ The Living Planner for additional information.

Stay safe everyone. –Lynn
