What’s Your Game Plan

Reviewing the goals you’ve mapped out for your personal and professional life, have you mapped out a game plan for achieving these goals? Breaking down goals into small steps to take is useful to achieving what you set out to accomplish!

Take the first step!

We begin by taking the first step! Breaking our goals down into a series of small steps allows us to complete one task and build momentum to tackle the next step.

  1. Establish your goal
  2. Ask yourself why this goal is important to you
  3. Create a game plan with a time line
  4. Map out a series of small steps in support of the end result
  5. Review if you require help to achieve your goal
  6. Begin by taking one small step, building momentum
  7. Review your progress as you continue taking steps
  8. Celebrate small “wins”
Everything is possible!

It’s odd how we can sabotage our progress and belief in achieving a goal through a lack of belief. We’ve learned to be objective, sometimes to our detriment. When we focus on the lack of achievement we discourage ourselves from completion of things we “said” were important.

This is why the “why” helps us with goal achievement. Knowing our why is the fuel to keep us going, even when hiccups occur! As the Greek philosopher Plato reminds us, “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Sometimes creative efforts are needed to meet our needs and achieve we set out to do.

If you don’t have a game plan, it’s never too late to start! Mapping out a game plan gives us the ability to see the way to successfully achieving the goals we set for ourselves at home and work. Q2 2019 will be here next week. This is a good time to review your progress of Q1 2019 and determine the adjustments needed to keep on track to achieve your game plan.

I’m a fan of scenario-based planning. Keeping an open mind to both internal and external factors that may impact you personally and professionally helps to identify scenario action plans. Ask yourself these questions from a personal and professional perspective.

  1. What short-term issues am I facing?
  2. What potential long-term issues may arrive?
