When we embark on a journey in unexplored territory, it is helpful to have guidance along the way. Today, we’ll consider leaving a trail of breadcrumbs!
Do you remember the German fairy tale of Hansel and Gretel? They were one step ahead of their parents, leaving a trail of breadcrumbs (in their case pebbles!) leading them back home.
This analogy can be helpful for us, as we consider how to leave behind important information for others, for occurrences throughout our lives personally or in business?
The picture above demonstrates the beauty of leaving a trail … it’s easy for someone to know where we’ve been, isn’t it? So, how may we begin creating a trail of important personal and business information?
Over the coming weeks, be ready to “chunk it down” and begin taking action. We’ll proceed with small steps you can take to build your momentum over time.
Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” … you can do it!
- Gather applicable personal ID’s
- birth certificate
- social security card
- driver’s license
- passport
- military ID
- insurance cards (including Medicare)
- company ID’s
- building and/or parking ID’s
- security access badges
- other ID’s as applicable (home/work)
- Make a copy of all ID’s
- Choose to print out or scan ID’s into a designated file
- Record and date stamp what’s been done
- Communicate with another (or others)
- Caution – protect from prying eyes … identify theft is rampant
Completing this task is important for anyone coming in beside you or behind you, allowing them to assess information and plan next steps. It is astonishing how frequently information about us is used by third parties and/or desired by identity theft operatives. Leaving our information “open” after we’ve gone is an open invitation for your life to be accessed or replicated without your permission.
We’ll continue mapping out steps for you to address personally and in business over the coming weeks. Making time now while you are living to take on these administrative responsibilities provides a sense of security now, minimizing unintended consequences in the future.
