2020 is here! Do you remember the song “Do Re Mi” from the Sound of Music? It begins with, “Let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start”! Great reminder to start the year considering a day in the life of you and all the responsibilities you take care of.
Why you ask? It’s important to recognize a day in the life of you contains loads of responsibilities requiring action and sometimes “intervention”! All of this “stuff” involves the knowledge, information and process by the person handling it.
When there is an opportunity to share or divide up responsibilities in your household, we do it! The question I have for you is, do you also share the information pertaining to those responsibilities you handle? Let’s consider the following basics.
- Access to your place of residence: Where we live, park, get our mail often involves gate codes, keys and transponders. If someone needed to gain access, could they?
- Household finances: Who pays the bills? Are they paid online from a bank account and/or directly deducted by the service provider? Either way, do you know how to access what’s being paid to providers in case changes are needed?
- Technology access: Technology use is prevalent personally. So many of us have tightened security to restrict access to our personal information by prying eyes. Consider how you could provide “just in case” access to others for your mobile phone, tablet, Mac or PC, printer, et al, to help someone help you if they needed to step in for you!
- Schedules: Ah, this is a doozy! Schedules can change to the point where it’s tough to keep up with your own, never mind considering others in your day to day life. Consider how a change in your schedule may impact for others counting on you to be somewhere. For those of us living solo – who would know if anything ever happened? Having a “Plan B” is a smart move for all!
There is a saying, “information is power”. Throughout my life, I’ve added “when it’s shared” to this original quote! As crazy as life can be, it’s a godsend to know somewhere in the back of our minds that we have shared the important stuff we do with someone. Knowing that we have set it up in such a way to allow someone to help us through whatever situation may happen.
The beginning of a new year and a new decade is a great time to task yourself with setting up to win! Drop me a line via Email to learn how I work with people and companies. Additional information is available on the website @ The Living Planner
