Keep Memories Alive!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the memories we have with significant people in our lives – how do we see, hear, remember our loved ones when they’re not with us?

When my dad was about to turn 80, I created a “birthday questionnaire”.  After dinner, as we were enjoying his “cake” (butterscotch pie), I began asking him the questions.  What fun it was to hear his answers.  I learned so much I hadn’t known and was happy to share this information with family/friends who were not with us that evening.

While these answers do not replace the touch of a hand, a hug, or interacting with him; I keep a part of him with me in my heart.

Technology has evolved so much since that night of me asking dad questions and writing down the answers.  Today, we live our day to day lives with selfies, videos and put together collections of moments digitally and on paper. I would hit the audio record button on my smartphone, or press video on my tablet and I would be able to see and hear him “live” again and again!
