The Living Planner Advisory Perspective Series

We continue the Advisory Perspective Series this month.  As a reminder, life is indeed a team sport!  Those you select to be on your team will provide you with critical information to set-up your house in a way that supports you and your family.  Choose wisely!

I will continue with the series of questions we started last month to give you an idea of what to consider when meeting or selecting professionals for your team.  Let’s have a look “behind the curtain” at what the professionals have to say.

I am delighted to introduce this month’s featured professional:  Kevin Hennessy, Owner, Farmers Insurance Agency Walnut Creek, CA

Farmers Insurance_Kevin

Kevin leads a professional staff of 4 people who educate their clients on how to properly secure their assets with insurance products. As the owner of the Agency, Kevin makes sure every customer is provided with sound advice based on their financial and personal risk characteristics. The Agency has been in Walnut Creek for 12 years. The agency staff is trained to treat our clients like family. We take our insurance knowledge, put our feet in their shoes and make sure their insurance program is a good fit. The staff enjoys a place where hard work and determination can provide them with financial freedom in an environment where everyone is treated with respect, encouraged to grow both professionally and personally through teamwork and education.

Question 1.  What do you enjoy about working with your clients?

The various ways people earn a living, there seems to be an endless number of jobs compared to the last time I was in “Corporate America”.  I also enjoy learning about their life and perspectives on things.

Question 2.  How would you suggest a potential new client prepare for a 1st meeting?

Give some thought to what they want and do some research.  I love having a meaningful conversation with people who come with all sorts of questions about different life insurance products and how they might work with their goals/objectives.  I would also say be honest with the person you decide to entrust your families future with.  And by all means, if you can not trust or feel comfortable sharing this information with this professional, perhaps you need to look for someone else who you feel comfortable with.  Remember it is the professional’s job to give you the information and options but you are writing the checks so you control the final transaction.

Question 3.  When someone agrees to become a client, what can they expect immediately?  Over time?

Besides great service, they become part of our larger family.  We check in with them periodically (they tell us what that means) to make sure nothing materially has changed in their life (kids, jobs, etc.).  Over time I think people get that we are different than most insurance agencies and we become part of their family as well.  At some point the conversation changes and that is when I really enjoy my role as their advisor.

Question 4.  What is your service philosophy?

We try to be there whenever and wherever they need us.  My cell phone is on my business card and we are on all the social media stuff, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+.

Question 5.  What resources do you provide to assist “laypeople” with understanding what is being discussed?

There is a great website for the industry, www.lifehappens.org.  It is a great place to find information about different products and terms.
Bonus Question: Like I said above make sure you are working with someone you can trust and will be there for a long time because these products are meant to last 10, 20, 30 years up to a lifetime.  Make sure the business is reputable and will be around.
