Topics of Interest

Happy May! Watching the trees, grass, and flowers at this time of year invites us to celebrate and notice changes all around. If you had asked me twenty years ago about topics of interest, I doubt I would have considered the elements of contingency planning I focus on today!

Thinking about topics of potential interest for you this week, I’d like to share an upcoming virtual event with interactive networking on May 6-7th that features professionals discussing topics such as:

  • Creative Financing for Seniors
  • Care, Planning, and Legacy
  • Senior Home Relocation
  • Data Ethics in Marketing
  • Capital Gains Tax
  • Identifying Scams
  • The Importance of Long Term Care
  • Senior Care Planning
  • And More!

These topics are important for you as you grow older, and for you, while caring for those who are aging. The Network & Navigate Virtual Summit is complimentary (no cost/free!), and replays will be available. Sign up, learn, participate, and enjoy! I’m delighted to be in a panel discussion on May 6th at 1000 AM Pacific Time. Register HERE

7-Day Prior Authorization Deadline

An announcement came out this week for those on Medicare Advantage Plans. Starting now, insurers handling Medicare Advantage plans must respond to prior authorization requests within a strict seven-day window for standard cases.

That’s a big deal for those scheduling procedures and want to avoid delays in their care, and for those involved with caring for someone on a Medicare Advantage plan. The new rule draws a hard line, requiring decisions within seven calendar days for standard requests and even faster for urgent cases.

Be proactive! Patients should confirm that their provider submits authorization requests promptly and includes all necessary documentation. Missing information can still slow things down, even under tighter deadlines. Keeping copies of medical records and communication logs adds an extra layer of protection.

As with all change, there may be some bumps on the road as this is implemented. Insurance companies and doctors’ offices may need extra nudges and patience as they determine the documentation needed.

All in all, it is a positive sign – delays are not friendly for patients. Navigating health care can be confusing and exasperating. Over the years, I’ve found it helpful to be kind and to be as patient as possible when presenting the desired outcome. When my fuse feels short, I pause and breathe.
